Q.
How do I choose between all the girdles listed in your store?
A.
To simplify this process, 4 main family styles of girdles and bodysuits are listed below:
1) LG (Ladies Girdle) - this style has a high waist and 3" elastic waist band. Recommended for all abdominal and lower body surgeries.
2) LW-LG (Low Waist Ladies Girdle) - this style has a low waist and 3/4" elastic waist band. Recommended for lower abdominal and all lower body surgeries.
3) FB (Female Bodysuit) - this style has comfortable suspenders and a high back. Recommended for all abdominal, lower body, and lower back procedures.
4) FBB (Female Bodysuit with Bra) - Ultra comfortable, this style has a built-in bra. Recommended for all abdominal and lower body procedures and for breast procedures.
All of these 4 family styles of girdles and bodysuits have the option to choose 4 different leg lengths, depending on the extent of your surgery.
Q.
What is the difference between first and second stage garments?
A.
First stage garments are generally for use right after surgery. They have zippered openings.
Second stage garments are generally for use during the later part of the recovery stage, although they can also be used directly after surgery. They do not have zippered openings and can be pulled on and off.
All Comfortwear® garments, regardless of the stage, are F5 certified.
Q.
How much pressure/compression will I get from the garments?
A.
Compression is measured in mmHg (mercury milligrams of pressure). The higher you go, the more pressure you get. Generally, ComfortWear® garments will deliver somewhere between 18-22 mmHg, depending on each patient's body. Basic + garments will deliver somewhere between 12-15 mmHg.
The compression level of 18-22 should make the garment feel tight against your body, but not so tight that it feels constrictive.
Wearing an incorrect sized garment will affect the compression levels of the fabric.
Q.
How do I choose between all of the Comfortwear® bras?
A.
The differences between compression garments are identified by the different surgical procedures that they are designed for.
The differences between Comfortwear® bras are:
1) B2- popular bra for augmentation procedures. Center hook and eye opening. 2" elastic band under the bust. Best for cup sizes A-C.
2) B - popular bra for augmentation. Similar to B2 but with 1" elastic band under the bust. Best for cup sizes A-C.
3) BA - augmentation bra. Lacy band under the bust. Front and back opening. Best for cup sizes C-DD.
4) BR - reconstruction bra. Full coverage. Center hook and eye opening. Best for cup sizes C-E. Can also be used for other breast procedures but works best for larger cup sizes.
5) FVNS - female vest no sleeves, similar to the BR. Has a center hook and eye opening. this bra/sleeveless vest can be used for all type of breast procedures. It is a little smaller than the BR.
6) FVNSZ - same as FVNS but with center zipper opening.
Q.
Based on how many CCs of fat I am having removed or added, how do I choose a garment and a size?
A.
We are not licensed medical professionals; therefore, we are not allowed to provide such advice. Please contact your physician’s office for expert medical advice.
Q.
Can I wear compression garments even if I haven't done any surgery of any kind, just to reduce the inches of my arms, thighs and calves?
A.
Wearing compression garments even if you have not had a surgery is okay. Although compression garments will temporarily (while the garment is on) reduce the size of your arms, thighs or calves, it is not scientifically proven that these results will stay permanent (when the garment is off).
Q.
When wearing a compression garment how do I use the bathroom?
A.
All applicable ComfortWear® garments have easy restroom accessibility. Abdominal length styles (FBA, FBBA, LGA) have a hook and eye crotch flap. Garments with legs have an open-crotch.
Q.
Can a garment that is too small cut off circulation?
A.
Yes. A garment that is too small will cause discomfort and in some extreme cases of incorrect sizing, cut off circulation. Consulting your physician and double-checking your size before buying one is always a good idea.
Q.
“Hello, I had tummy tuck just over a week ago and was wondering if I could have a ‘night off’ from the compression garment. It is amazingly comfortable but all I seem to be doing is resting and eating so sometimes it gets a bit ‘tight!’ Thank you, Ian.”
A.
Your physician (or nurse) can give you a definite yes or no. Although we are knowledgeable in the compression garment arena, we cannot give you medical advice such as how long you should wear a garment.
Typically, during the initial period of post-op, patients are instructed to wear a "first stage" garment constantly (even while sleeping) and only remove it to use the bathroom (if the item is not built to facilitate bathroom use) or to shower. Depending on your recovery progress and how comfortable you feel during your healing journey, you may want to experiment with removing the garment for short periods of time to give yourself "a break." After the initial 2-8 week post op period, you might want to try wearing a "second stage" (zipperless) garment. These garments are typically worn during the "second stage" (2-8 weeks or longer, depending on the doctor’s instructions) of post-surgery recovery.
